FAQs

Not at all! Unfortunately, that’s one of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit. Even for those who fear they’ve had too many injuries or are too out of shape, not at their ideal weight or not within the right age range, CrossFit is INFINITELY scalable. That’s why CrossFit Lanier boasts a well-rounded membership base of athletes of all ages, shape, sizes, abilities and skill levels. CrossFit is the perfect match for anyone who wants to work out, but likes or needs guidance, appreciates the flexibility of our programming, thrives on encouragement, and welcomes some healthy competition!

If you’re new to CrossFit, we recommend taking our CFL Fundamentals program before joining the regular group classes. For just $325.00, you’ll get 5 hours of training with one of our coaches, who will assess your current level of fitness and teach you all the basic CrossFit movements and their progressions. You’ll also learn all the CrossFit lingo, and have a chance to ask any questions and get some workouts in before joining our regular CrossFit classes. On graduation, your first month’s membership to CFL is free.
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.
The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.
The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity across broad time and modal domains. Constantly varied means we apply different stimulus in weight, time domain, environment, and equipment to create the most efficient and effective training model. We use a wide variety of methods and techniques to produce the best possible general physical preparedness. Functional movement is the creation of power and speed from the core to the extremity.
The majority of our exercises mimic the movements you use in your job, around your house or in other sports you might be involved in. We squat, throw, jump, lift, press, and climb. They reflect natural movement patterns that are required for life, whether you’re an athlete, a mother, a soldier, or trying to maintain your independence as you age.

The best part of CrossFit is its ability to work for everyone, regardless of their current level of health. CrossFit is a scalable program. We can increase your level of fitness no matter how out of shape you are. If you’re a trained, competition-level athlete, we can make you better.
The community aspect is highly underrated and an important part of CrossFit. Once you experience the support of your fellow athletes, encouraging you, cheering you as you finish a workout, you’ll wonder why you didn’t join sooner.
You cannot achieve these results on your own. CrossFit works because you get results, it’s fun and you aren’t working out by yourself. Sharing your workouts with others, enjoying what you’re doing and getting the results you hoped for means you’ll keep coming back.

  • CrossFit is more than a gym or a place to work out, it’s a community of people dedicated to improving their lives, health, and physical ability.
  • We are mothers and fathers who want the strength to care for their children and be active again.
  • We are grandparents and senior citizens that want to fight off major health threats while retaining the ability to live independently and enjoy longer and fuller lives.
  • We are competitive athletes, soldiers, police and firefighters looking for the edge in competitive sports, at work, or on the field of combat.
  • We are children and teens who are getting introduced to healthy fitness habits early in life.
  • We are all Athletes.

Anyone can do CrossFit, and that includes you. That’s right; regardless of the physical condition you are in when you start. CrossFit works because it can be tailored or “scaled” to your individual ability level, age, and goals. The CrossFit method has been used successfully for everyone from competitive athletes, to grandparents, to disabled veterans, allowing everyone with a desire to improve their physical well-being, regardless of age or physical condition to “Discover their Inner Athlete”

The “workout of the day” or the “WOD” that we perform every day in our facility often looks like hard work, but the workout is only as hard as you make it. Our program will challenge you every day in new ways, never allowing you to slip into a routine.
With the help of a fun and supportive environment, and with a team of the most knowledgeable coaches you have ever come across, we can help you achieve the best results of your life. You provide the effort, and we guarantee results!

This is the most common question we hear from people who are interested in CrossFit. Whether they are first getting started or feel like they are not in good enough shape to start, there is a common misconception that CrossFit is only for those who are already fit. CrossFit may be an intense program, but it is an intensity that is relative to your athletic level. Whether your need is to power lift 500 pounds or safely lift a bag of dog food, we will find the right prescription to achieve your greatest gains.
The program is infinitely scalable and we can adjust every workout to meet your goals and what you are capable of. This is the cornerstone of what we do. We’ll teach you functional movements in a fun and exciting group setting under the supervision of a trained, certified instructor.

A traditional gym has tons of slick looking equipment, treadmills, ellipticals, mirrors on the walls and lots of spandex.  A CrossFit box is just four walls. Maybe it will have a fan or two, possibly a garage door they can open to let out the heat and sweat of real people, working hard to improve their health and fitness. In a typical “Global Gym”, you wait for others to get done with the equipment you want to use, you sign up for the latest and greatest “Spin, Bodyplex, Bootcamp, Zumba class and hope there’s room for you and no one right behind you. You don’t know the names of the people on your right or left.
In a CrossFit “Box” you’re glad to see your friends arrive. You talk about last night’s dinner and what you ate before you came to the workout. You ask each other what’s sore from the previous workout and discuss today’s workout and worry if you can get through it.
In a 24 hour “fitness” gym, there is no one to help you reach your fitness goals, or even help you figure out what that “torture device” machine is in the corner.
At CrossFit Lanier, you’ll have a trained, certified instructor available at all times. They will ask you what your goals are, find out what’s hurting, teach you how to do the day’s workout correctly with perfect form, and teach you the scaled movements available for each exercise. You’ll get just as much of a workout as the person next to you, regardless of your current level of fitness.

Traditional gyms force you to sign a yearly contract and hope you don’t really show up. We don’t require contracts. If it’s your intention to sign and not show, then CrossFit Lanier isn’t for you. We’re looking for people who are tired of trying and not succeeding, tired of hoping there’s an easy way to reach their goals. We’re looking for people just like you; people who want real change and are willing to do what it takes to make a difference in their lives. If you give us 100%, we’ll give it back. Sign up for a month, three months, a year, or the rest of your life. Just show up!

We give you everything a personal trainer is giving you at a fraction of the cost but also give you something you can’t get with a PT – “a community.”
Being unhealthy and overweight is expensive. Doctor visits, prescription drugs and surgeries are expensive. The money spent to maintain or regain your health is a smart investment in your future.
Consult your doctor before starting any fitness or nutrition program. We can accommodate any fitness level, and can usually work around limitations, but your ability to do our program is a decision between you and your doctor.
